Imagine a jam session with the love child of Adele and Alanis Morissette. That is the sound of Rebecca Shearing.
Singer/songwriter Rebecca Shearing only started writing songs at the age of 18, stating ‘she had found something to write about by then’. Having amassed a huge following on YouTube with over 22 million views and over 70,000 subscribers to her channel, Shearing is easily acquiring gigs throughout Scotland such as supporting ‘Bad Day’ singer Daniel Powter, playing in a boxing ring in front of Mike Tyson himself, and more recently playing an acoustic set herself in the Lower East Side of New York.
Shearing released her debut EP, ‘Paper Lung’ on the 8th of October 2012, primarily promoted on Facebook as a ‘taster’ of her music’. It was received well, and Rebecca and her band are due back in the studio starting the 4th of March 2013. ‘These songs are a little more mature than my last EP, my writing style has developed and I think a little more about the concept and the intent of what I am trying to say.’ She holds her influences close to her: Christina Aguilera, Elton John and more recent acts such as Lianne La Havas and Tom Odell.
Now, Shearing is finishing her music degree in Edinburgh while heaving her stage piano around the country playing to whoever would like to listen. Find her covers, originals and live performances at http://www.youtube.com/bexboop878
